Magnetoelastic Effects in UNiAl and UCoAl
We report on strongly anisotropic thermal-expansion and magnetostriction of UNiAl and UCoAl within the frame of the 5f -electron magnetism. Both the compounds crystallize in the hexagonal ZrNiAl-type structure and exhibit huge magnetocrystalline anisotropy with the c-axis as the easy magnetization direction. UNiAl orders antiferromagnetically (TN ≈ 19 K) and exhibits a field-induced metamagneti...

متن کاملMagnetocaloric effect and negative thermal expansion in hexagonal Fe doped MnNiGe compounds with a magnetoelastic AFM-FM-like transition
We report a detailed study of two successive first-order transitions, including a martensitic transition (MT) and an antiferromagnetic (AFM)-ferromagnetic (FM)-like transition, in Mn1-xFexNiGe (x = 0, 0.06, 0.11) alloys by X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, magnetization and linear thermal expansion measurements. Such an AFM-FM-like transition occurring in the martensitic sta...

news & views Nevertheless, a few hurdles must be overcome before SBA dielectrics will make a significant impact on large-scale transistor manufacturing. Perhaps the biggest problem at the moment is the slow response of the sodium ions to an external electric field. Consequently, the capacitance of the SBA films is reduced at higher frequencies. Solid-polymer electrolytes typically suffer from a...
